Dental implants require a process that takes months to complete, but for good reason. They allow you to eat, speak, and laugh with complete confidence. In fact, dental implants are the closest you can get to your natural smile. Dr. Castleberry wants you to have the information you need to feel confident in your treatment before you begin. That’s why he has outlined the entire process from start-to-finish, ensuring that you know exactly what you’re committing to. Read on to learn more about how you can get the most functional, beautiful, and lifelike smile with dental implants in Houston.
The first part of the treatment process is the surgical placement. After a consultation, we will schedule your surgery, where Dr. Castleberry will make small incisions in your gums to access your bone. Then, he will create tiny holes in your jaw for the placement of your implants. We will make sure that you’re numb, comfortable, and relaxed for the entire process. Once placed, we’ll give you temporary restorations to maintain your appearance. It’s normal to feel some slight soreness after surgery, but this is the most discomfort you’ll experience throughout the entire process.
After your implants are placed, you’ll begin a healing period that lasts at least 3 to 4 months. This process is called osseointegration—the biocompatible titanium implants fuse to the jawbone, creating stable supports for your restorations. Once your implants have healed, Dr. Castleberry will attach abutments, which are small connectors that allow for the placement of your restorations. Then, he will take impressions of your implants to custom make restorations that will seamlessly blend into the rest of your smile.
After your restorations are created out of high-quality materials at a state-of-the-art dental lab, you’ll come into our office for the final stage of treatment. Dr. Castleberry will check to see if you’re absolutely happy with your restorations before permanently attaching them to the abutments. Once placed, he will look over your new smile and show off your results. All that’s left to do is to walk out of our office with a beautiful, confident, and strong set of teeth!
