3 Reasons You Shouldn’t Let Dental Anxiety Haunt You This Halloween

With Halloween around the corner, you might be watching your favorite scary movies to get in the spirit of the season. The joyful frights can be exhilarating, but many people feel like their dentist’s office is akin to a haunted house! However, getting the dental care you need shouldn’t be a place of fear. Here are three reasons why you shouldn’t be worried about your upcoming visit.

1.)  You Get to Clean Out Your Smile

No matter how well you brush and floss, checkups and cleanings are crucial. As you do your at-home routine, there may be some nooks and crannies in your teeth that you can’t effectively reach. Over time, they can accumulate a buildup of bacteria that can harden when left on for too long.

When it happens, then your toothbrush can’t remove it, but rather your dentist can with special instruments. You will also be able to track changes to your oral health, so that any problems get caught early instead of needing more in-depth treatment later on.

2.)  Dental Technology Has Become Better

Depending on how long it’s been since you last went to the dentist, the technology that’s used has continued to advance. Nowadays, many are designed with patient comfort in mind. They continue to get quieter while being more efficient and effective. That way, you can sit back and relax during your visit.

If you find your anxiety is still making it hard for you to calm down, then you can consider conscious sedation! This is great in helping you feel more relaxed throughout your visit. Whether you get laughing gas or another medication, they help you feel more at ease about the whole thing.

3.)  Your Dentist Will Be Happy to Have You

A big fear that many patients share is that their dentist will judge them. It can be worrying to imagine all the things your provider might say, but the truth is, they’ll just be happy to have you in. You won’t be scolded or given a long lecture about your smile. Instead, the team will work with you and give you the tools you need to improve your oral health.

Whether that is giving you advice about your dental hygiene routine or another treatment, they want you to feel confident in taking care of your smile. When it’s all said and done, you’ll be able to feel better about your grin with a fresh, clean slate.
